How to choose the right men's hair system

Color is where most people start, and it's the wrong place to start. Base size, density, construction, and gray percentage decide whether a piece reads as your hair or as a hairpiece. We carry over 4,000 SKUs in 124 colors, which is great for comparing and useless if you don't know what to filter by. Here's the order we'd work in.

1. Base size: measure before you browse

Base size is how much scalp the piece covers. Ours run 5x7, 6x8, 6x9, 7x9, and 8x10 inches, depending on the model.

Measure the area you need to cover first: a tape across the widest points of the thinning area, not a guess in the mirror. Then match that against the listed dimensions. People usually underestimate, and a base that's slightly too small is the most common reason a hairline looks wrong.

2. Density and length

Density is how full the hair looks. Stock models generally run 80% to 120%.

Lower density sits lighter and reads as thinner hair, which tends to look more believable if the hair around it has thinned too. Higher density gives you volume and more to style with. Match it to the hair you have now, not the hair you had at 25.

Most stock models come at roughly 6 inches. That's deliberate, since you're meant to cut it down. Budget for a trim, ideally from a stylist who has worked with hair systems before.

3. Color and gray percentage

124 colors, plus gray from 5% to 90% on selected models, depending on the color combination.

Two things worth doing. Check the color in daylight, because bathroom lighting washes warm tones straight out. And go by the gray percentage rather than the color name, which shifts in meaning from one model to the next.

If you're torn between two gray levels, take the lower one. Hair reads grayer under office lighting than it does in your bathroom, and going too gray is harder to walk back.

4. Base construction and hair material

Construction trades off appearance against durability against breathability, and nothing wins all three. Specs vary by model, so read the spec table rather than assuming two similar-looking pieces are built the same way.

What actually narrows it down is your own routine: how many days a week you'll wear it, tape or glue, and how much maintenance you'll honestly do. The most natural-looking base on the market is the wrong buy if it's the one that needs 40 minutes of cleanup every Sunday night.

5. In-stock or custom

We hold 45,000 units across the range, and eligible US in-stock orders arrive in 3–5 days. That's the route most people take.

Custom covers specs we don't stock: around 40 days to produce, plus shipping. Before committing, write out the full spec (base design, size, density, color, attachment method). Custom goes wrong when the spec is vague, and 40 days is a long wait to find out you got it wrong.
