Mono vs Lace Hair System – Understand Base Differences Before Buying Your Toupee
The base material decides how your hair system looks, how long it lasts, and what it feels like to wear day to day. Most men's non-surgical systems use either mono or lace, and the trade-offs are big enough to think through before you spend.

Lace systems use a fine mesh - French or Swiss - with hair individually hand-knotted into it. The mesh basically disappears against your skin, especially along the front where the knots get bleached, which gives you the most natural-looking hairline of any base type. You can also comb the hair in different directions without an obvious parting showing up. The trade-off is fragility. Lace tears more easily than mono, needs careful handling during cleaning and attachment, and the lifespan runs shorter.
Mono (monofilament) bases are built from a denser, thicker mesh. They're noticeably more durable than lace, hold higher hair density without losing shape, and take daily wear and washing without complaint. The parting area also looks convincingly like scalp. Where mono gives up ground is at the perimeter - the edge isn't invisible the way lace is, which is why a lot of buyers go with a hybrid: lace at the front, mono through the crown and back.
We're LYRICAL HAIR, based in Qingdao, China, and the largest men's hair system factory here, with direct retail stores in the US as well. We make both mono and lace systems - 124 colors and over 4,000 SKUs in the catalog. Human hair goes through a one-hour cuticle stripping process before it's used, which is what gives the finished piece its softness and the consistent luster it holds over months of wear. The knots along lace front hairlines are bleached so the edge reads as scalp.
Grey hair runs from 5% to 90%, with over 2,500 grey-related SKUs and roughly 45,000 in-stock units aimed at blending smoothly with the hair a client still has on top. Standard small base sizes stay on the shelf - 5×7, 6×8, 7×9, 7×10, 8×10 - so most orders ship quickly without waiting on production. Because human grey yellows in storage, the grey in our ready stock is synthetic. If you want real human grey all the way through, our custom service handles it - around 40 days lead time.

Pick lace if the most natural-looking hairline and breathability are what you care about. Pick mono if you want it to last and hold higher density. Either way, the factory scale, the inventory depth, and the custom option are all here - send us a note about what you're trying to match and we'll point you at the right system.
